“Ordinary Day” – Song By: lodato

a pale light
comes through the bedroom window
every evening

francis lays there on the bed
over the spread
a vale of mystery hangs on every moment
as shadows slowly seduce the clean white walls

I move in to get a better ease drop on
and play the eye of the camera lense
the shutter snaps
and francis brakes the peace
and the calm

look at me in a questionable gaze
and all I do is leave things the way I found them
and let francis get on
with an ordinary day

“Staircase Has No Legs” – Poem By: Heather Whitley Gibson

supper has it’s last dinner
the door has a foot
the window has a flowerbed
it’s frame has a curtain
staircase has no legs
vacuum cleaner has rollers
chair has arms
even beds have heads
the T.V. takes a stand
the light bulb has it’s own shade
the pillows have shams
like purses have strings
clothes have price tags
every dresser has drawers
keys have hooks
wires have outlets
clocks, chalkboards, mirrors have faces
the table has it’s dressings
staircase has no legs

“It’s The Rain I Can’t Catch” – Poem By: Heather Whitley Gibson

 It’s the rain I can’t catch

The song I never sang before,

has notes, I’ve never heard.

it’s a melody that

 screams

and a beat that drums.

don’t touch.

It’s a love far away

an imagined image

where I want to wear

that light surf, a crown

with springs.

Like a silver spoon

found at the bottom of

the ocean.

(the milk carton

floating still)

It’s the rain I can’t

 catch

the hand I can hold.

the way I watch you sleep.

It’t the place where dreams

and nightmeres

befriend.

Spring Reign by Dean Young

Thank you whoever tuned the radio
to rain, thank you who spilled
the strong-willed wine for not
being me so I’m not to blame. I’m glad

I’m not that broken tree although

it looks sublime. And glad I’m not

taking a test and running out of time.

What’s a tetrahedron anyway? What’s

the sublime, 3,483 divided by 9,

the tenth amendment, the ferryman’s name

on the River Styx? We’re all missing

more and more tricks, losing our grips,

guilty of crimes we didn’t commit.

The horse rears and races then moves no more,

the sports coupe grinds to a stop, beginning

a new life as rot, beaten to shit, Whitman

grass stain, consciousness swamp gas,

the bones and brain, protoplasm and liver,

ground down like stones in a river. Or does

the heart’s cinder wash up as delta froth

out of which hops frog spawn, dog song,

the next rhyming grind, next kid literati?

Maybe the world’s just a bubble, all

philosophy ants in a muddle,

an engine inside an elk’s skull on a pole.

Maybe an angel’s long overdue and we’re

all in trouble. Meanwhile thanks whoever

for the dial turned to green downpour, thanks

for feathery conniptions at the seashore

and moth-minded, match-flash breath.

Thank you for whatever’s left.

“It Happened Again” – Song By: Ronnie and Heather Whitley Gibson

Stop sign ahead, it happened again
breeze in the trees, tears in your eyes
it’s Cezanne’s Mt. Rainier,
balanced on his back, the time traveled to find
painted in solitude, the easel wedged between
the sand and the stone, it’s still time taken
colors awaken, it’s happened to you

the time to find, what he could find true
the path still taken, it’s happened to you
it’s the love, from a beautiful song
the imagined image
blinking eyes emerge

a bird parading, a light purple flare
happiness so near, the pain that swings
it’s warm pouches of clouds
silent strained, looking so slow, in water, in life
hanging below, the sweetness of falling
the shunted sunspot, lids slant shut
like a child walks home on a Sunday crawling
to find the unfindable tear

the time to find, what he could find true
the path still taken, it’s happened to you
it’s the love, from a beautiful song
laughing and loving
never forgetting the falling

the time to find, what he could find true
the path still taken, it’s happened to you
it’s the love, from a beautiful song
laughing and loving
never forgetting the falling

the song everyone plays
it happened again

the sweetness of grace

Top 5: Old School Punk Rock Albums

Album Reviews » Top 5: Old School Punk Rock Albums

5. Black Flag – Damaged

The debut album heard around the world, “Damaged” is a cohesive statement of paranoia from Los Angeles, a city with a reputation for laid back, California style dinosaur rock like The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac. Classified as a gang by the LAPD, Black Flag’s gigs were legendary displays of pure aggression, until they were all but outlawed.

Best Tracks: “Damaged I”, “Six Pack” and “TV Party” have all had a massive impact on anyone who ever heard them.

4. X-Ray Spex – Germ Free Adolescents

A mulatto teenage girl with braces is not what people think of when they think of the ideal leader of a punk-rock band, but Poly Styrene showed the whole world that punk rock truly meant freedom. News of her recent passing has led an entire new generation to discover this wild, completely unique album.

Best Tracks: “I Live Off You”, “Oh, Bondage Up Yours!” and “Germfree Adolescents” are truly groundbreaking, paving the way for groups as far flung as The Raincoats, Hole and Tori Amos.

3. The Clash – The Clash

Often referred to as “The only band that matters,” CBS Records didn’t even bother to release the record in America until late 1979, with an almost entirely different track list. For British ears, though, the record was as powerful as “Sgt. Peppers”, “Pet Sounds” and “The Village Green Preservation Society” all rolled into one.

Best Tracks: “Janie Jones”, “Garageland” and “White Riot” laid the template for everything that followed, from Rancid to Green Day to Avril Lavigne.

2. Sex Pistols – Never Mind The Bollocks, Here’s The Sex Pistols

Despite having upwards of a hundred releases to their name, “Bollocks” is the only Sex Pistols studio album ever recorded. The fact that everything they’ve ever done has been so endlessly repackaged speaks to the lasting power of the music. Incidentally, this is the record that taught Americans that bollocks was a swear word in England. Who knew?

Best Tracks: “Holidays in the Sun”, “Anarchy in the UK”, “Bodies” and “God Save The Queen” changed forever what was acceptable subject matter in rock music.

1. The Ramones – The Ramones

The record that started it all. Legend has it that Sid Vicious, the destructive bassist of the Sex Pistols, learned to play his instrument by taking a whole bunch of speed and playing along to this record for a few days. Deviously simple, The Ramones laid the groundwork for everything to come. Often imitated, never ever duplicated.

Hostage: Poem by johnnyduncan

HOSTAGE

Being trapped in a place or situation That causes headaches, heart aches and frustration, By invisible forces that imprison the will, Coercing him or her to live the life she lives. Having to bite one’s tongue in order to speak, To keep from stepping on somebody’s feet. Jobs, expectations, laws and mores of society Are sources of this variety of anxiety!

Spend a majority of time in a working life, Traveling to and fro from so much strife, Uttering unheard curses, crying waterless tears, In order to retire in a few more years? Be a “fuehrer”, you know what this word means,* Refuse to be enslaved by life’s routines. Jobs, expectations, laws and mores of society Are sources of this variety of anxiety!

Auto, gas, phone, insurance, rent and food are but a few Which at the same time of the month come due. Robbing Peter to pay Paul takes maneuverability. Keeping the lights on is an exercise in fUTILITY “What can one do, how can one escape, When Mr. BILL is standing gun-at-the-gate?” Jobs, expectations, laws and mores of society Are sources of this variety of anxiety!

*Fuehrer means leader.
